La Chouette is ideally placed in the middle of the unspoilt and very green Limousin region in central France. It is a region characterised by rolling hills, lakes, streams and rivers – a nature lover’s paradise, or simply a very relaxing place to get away from it all and forget the stresses of day to day life.

The small towns and villages are steeped in history and fascinating to explore, and life appears to go on much as it has for years…all to be observed sitting outside in the sun enjoying a coffee or a cool refreshing drink, or strolling through quiet streets or along deserted country lanes.
There’s always something interesting to see or do when you’re out and about, be it a local market, sporting event, concert, firework display ( make sure you’re in France for the 14th July) or as seen in this picture, Les Ostensions which took place in 2009.

La Chouette lies on the south facing slope of a valley, opposite woods and grazing land, with a stream meandering through the bottom of the valley. We live in one of four houses in a hamlet on the edge of the village of Ste Anne St Priest, well known locally for the ‘Circuit des Trois Eglises’ (the Three Churches Walk) and the fine beef, goats cheese and organic apples available from our neighbours’ farms. The locals are very friendly and we hope you enjoy your visit to our region as much as we love living here.

For lovers of the great outdoors, this is a beautiful area to be whatever the season. There are miles of signposted walks and mountain bike trails, and we can lend you maps and guides. Lac de Vassivière is about 25 minutes by road from La Chouette and there you’ll find a full range of watersports, several beaches and a newly opened footpath around the lake, complemented by a free water taxi service operating in the summer months.
