Meet the chef - a passionate foodie cooking great food at La Chouette, in the Limousin, France

Food is Richard’s life-long passion!  It was his hobby before he joined the army as an apprentice chef, and during his military service he was posted to different parts of the world, cooking almost exclusively in the officers’ messes and sometimes for visiting Royalty.  

Having retired from the army, he began his second career teaching at Oxford, sharing his knowledge and expertise with up and coming young chefs.  After eleven years formally teaching, he continued encouraging young chefs in his post as Head Chef at Flint House, the Police Rehabilitation Centre in Goring-on-Thames, between 1999 and 2004.

Richard and Jan moved to France in 2004 and opened La Chouette, their B & B with a difference and a very special place to stay.  Life has therefore come full circle for

Richard - once again food is his hobby, but is taken very seriously none the less. His cooking has an international flavour, gained from his travels and passion to try new dishes.

It is our aim to make your holiday stay as enjoyable as possible and that you should take away fond memories of the experiences and delicious meals you have shared with us and our guests at our table.

There’s nothing we like better than sitting around the table with our guests and enjoying a good meal! Richard, being a natural teacher is always happy to share his vast knowledge and you’ll leave our house with hints, tips and recipes if you wish!
